Tips ‘n’ Tricks for Zombie Gunship Survival

Concentrated Blasts!

As with virtually every shooter game, the spray and pray tactic will work for some easier lower missions yet will soon simply end in failure every time. This is especially true to ZG Survival as weapons either have limited ammo or a lengthy cooldown / reloading which can either make or break a mission.

Therefore, first of all, be sure to fire with the correct weapon. Take time with limited ammunition and precision weapons like cannons, rockets and sniper rifles to make sure every shot counts.  Auto cannons and other reloading / cooldown weapons should be used in short bursts to maximize damage without overheating which results in a lack of usage.

Furthermore, selecting the right loadout of weapons pre-battle is also a must! If there are nothing but the slow moving “shamblers” then an auto cannon style of weapon should be then prime choice, yet if the powerful “titans” are detected, then make sure that you have a sufficient heavy duty secondary weapon to cut down the hulks.

It also cannot be stated clearly enough, but be sure to constantly be zooming in to target short blasts, then zoom out to scan for the next wave. This will usually mean that scrolling to different areas back and forth is the best way to protect ground troops.

Play the Objectives

Despite the helpful tutorial it can be a little ambiguous as to where to focus on when beginning your base build. So rather than simply upgrade the cheapest and easiest option, scroll through the objectives to see what rewards can be won through upgrades which will lead to faster progression.  That said however, by upgrading the Headquarters (HQ) first and foremost to as high as it can go, players will unlock new buildings, defenses and offensive capabilities and can then find their direction from there.

Time Your Attacks!

Due to the lack of any energy limits restricting gameplay it is very easy to simply keep on playing endlessly yet this is counter-balanced by having only a limited amount of slots to hold reward crates which then have to be opened via the premium currency of gold. (clever right)  Therefore, above all, always be opening crates as a number one priority!  Different crates have different opening times and as such players should time the options around gameplay schedules and visa-versa to avoid playing missions with no rewards of crates.

Deploy With Skill!

Before deploying troops, players will need to adequately loadout their airship with appropriate weapons. From there players select a position to deploy troops.  Whilst the tutorial teaches players to destroy guard towers immediately to protect ground troops, it is in fact much, much better to leave them intact and deploy ground forces in an area where their path is out of range of the towers.  This is advantageous as the automated guard towers will also target and eliminate zombies as well which allows players to focus on other hordes.  Just be sure to keep an eye on ground troops however, as if they come under fire, then players will quickly need to take out the guard towers.

Upgrading buildings is fairly straightforward, yet upgrading or “boosting” weapons on the other hand needs a little bit more attention as different weapons are suited to different roles and have different grading and value. To do so requires both “metal” resources and “bolts”.  Metal can be acquired very easily yet bolts are much rarer and as such squirrelled away until necessary.  Thus, players should focus on upgrading epic, rare and un-common weapons or higher and not waste resources on anything lower.  Upon boosting a weapon to its highest level players can then fuse other items to raise the weapons star level, which obviously is the desired goal.

Also be sure to watch short advertisements when waiting for crates to open to earn free metal and supplies! As slow and painstaking as it is, with builder games that are limited by time locked capsules, the key is to stay as busy as possible by all means necessary.

Don’t Forget to Defend!

As easy as it is to constantly be attacking in new missions, valuable crates and other rewards can be won through defending as well! This is especially true as one of the daily objectives will almost always be to defend your base, which means players can earn double rewards for a single mission.  When defending the core buildings that need to be protected are the Armory, Metal and Supply Storages with the main Headquarters being the most vital of all.  Therefore, be sure to re-arrange your layout to efficiently be able to defend all fronts as well as properly upgrading walls, towers and mortars to best protect all four core buildings.
Once a good layout has been found, preferably with as many walls and barriers blocking the closest spawning nodes, with defensive towers and mortars behind them and then the core building behind them, aim to remove the closest spawning nodes which will allow for much more time to take out heavy swarms of hordes from your gunship before the zombies reach your ground defensives.

Personal Impressions // Review of Zombie Gunship Survival

Full of intense action and meta based base building upgrades Zombie Gunship Survival has a bit of everything to suit a range of genres. The black lite night vision style visual tones and static sound effects work well in creating a frenetic intensity which despite first impressions, actually serves much better than over digitalized rendering.  The absolute lack of any pop-up advertising is a rare blessing and further adds to the overall positive experience of the game.

The lack of any energy meter as well as there not being any real penalties for failing missions is one of the biggest reasons this free to play game is so addictive! Yes, the game may feel repetitive after some time and yes!  The limited amount of slots which can hold slots is very annoying – just as the time needed to open said crates is painstakingly slow.  And finally, yes, there is no captivating storyline which truly compels players to keep coming back to find out what happens in that next chapter. …

Yet in all, if these are the only three major flaws in a free to download game … then after compared to all the freemium / pay to win games that saturate the market, I would consider Zombie Gunship Survival to be an absolute winner! Thus, if looking for a game that can be enjoyed on both the short and long term, then Zombie Gunship Survival is well worth the initial download and first few hours of gameplay.  From there decide for yourself whether to keep playing or delete and find something new.  Either way, it is worth trying.
Four and a half stars out of five!
