Mad Skills BMX 2

An Introduction to Mad Skills BMX 2

With the original racking up rave reviews and been a fan favourite for over five years, it is no wonder that developers decided to create an updated version to better make use of current devices.
Whilst still being only a soft launch to certain regions, the game is complete in foundations and most likely a finished project with very few alterations to be made.
That said however, There are a few issues at play that will be addressed within this article and as such will be revised and re-reviewed if such issues are adhered to.
Nevertheless, Mad Skills BMX 2 is an excellently fun and addictive physics racer which challenges both mind and reflexology!

Tips ‘n’ Tricks for Mad Skills BMX 2

High is Fly, Yet Low is Flow!

As tempting as it is to float like a butterfly soaring through the skies as rider’s apex through jumps cruising through the air, it is actually far more advantageous to minimize the amount of hang time as much as possible. When not necessary players should not even jump or simply bunny-hop over bumps to get back to mashing the pedals as furiously as possible.  Therefore, a great way of keeping bikes low and flat is to jump then lightly tap the land button in the middle of a jump then again harder and longer when actually wanting to make contact with the game, which will create a slight wave action boost before landing on the back wheel.  Thus if replaying much lower levels then sure, have some fun and fly high – yet if struggling to beat an opponent then feel the flow.

Push the Pump?

Early on in the tutorial the game advices to always press the down arrow button to pop up onto the back wheel to cruise downhill. While this does provide speed and stability, and should be used on most steep declines and over the majority of “rollers”, if players fail to win the particular match, the best method of replay is to adjust and minimize the amount of push given to the wheelie and instead ride normally pumping the pedals to increase speed.

Perfect It or Replay It!

With virtually all races having players battling against much higher OP opponents, players need to have a perfect run in wanting to clear a stage. (Obviously replaying lower missions with upgraded bikes is different.)  Therefore if trying to redline it as much as possible yet failing to clear difficult “alligator pit” jumps and gaps, it is best to simply forfeit the ride by tapping on the icon in the top right corner and start again.

Forget the Flips!

Later in the game certain levels will require players to perform specific tricks and stunts, yet in the earlier stages of the game, it is essential to simply cross the finish line in first position. Whilst opposing riders may be throwing around flips here and there, it is best to ignore how they ride and instead thrash out your own style

Grind, Upgrade, Grind.

If able to unlock new bikes or willing to purchase gold with IRC, then it is best to upgrade bikes to all max levels as quick as possible. If unable to fund upgrades then simply watch video advertisements to gain quick cash to bring bikes up their full potential.

Personal Impressions // Review of Mad Skills BMX 2

Considering this review is based off the soft launch version of the game, this article will most likely be updated or added to. That said however, the foundations of the game seem to be fairly clear and set and will not alter all that much.  So, working off first impressions, Mad Skills BMX 2 is extremely fun!  The simplistic graphics allows for more attention to detail to the physics of the ride.  The sound effects are also extremely subtle and realistic.

However, as addictively fun and challenging as levels are, straight out of the gates it is a blatant cash grab where players are forced to not only spend to enjoy yet more obnoxious though is that players are forced to continue spending real life currency. Whereas most free to play games work on the standard freemium model of being able to play for free with the option of spending IRC to aid and speed up progress.  In Mad Skills BMX 2 players are locked out of even buying new bikes without buying previous tier bikes first!  Which since players will always be riding against stronger and faster bikes, it is near impossible to win enough matches to earn enough XP to earn enough free gold to buy the bikes necessary to clear stages.

Whilst encouraging in game purchases is extremely welcomed, advertising that a game is free yet not being able to play but a mere percentage of it before becoming locked without any statement in the download description is near unforgivable. Hopefully these issues will be addressed by developers in later updates, yet until then do not bother to download the game as it will only frustrate!
First ever zero star out of five!
