Hay Day

Introduction to Hay Day

Here we have another award winning, worldwide hit game from Supercell! Hay Day is the hugely popular farming simulation game that is both pleasantly relaxing and addicting at the same time!  Grow and harvest crops, raise livestock and produce all that you need to live off the land in this heartwarming game!

Hay Day Gameplay

Realistic in all essences players inherit a run-down farm and strive to turn it into grade-A ranch! Besides the obvious tending to cattle and livestock such as chickens, cows and sheep, farmers will also have to grow, harvest and store crops of corn and wheat which can be converted into bread and animal feed.  The game also takes it one step further by having players take care of painting the barns, clearing fields and selling / trading their yields to other locals as well.

Features of Hay Day

The game stagers the growth of the farm by only allowing certain building, animals, crops and so forth, to be unlocked as the player progresses through as the farm ‘Levels Up’. This may be annoying to some, yet essentially that is what a simulation game is!  Keeping the player involved and aiming for long term goals in which players invest not money but emotions and time!

Tips, Tricks & Helpful Advice For Hay Day

  • Experience vs Money

When staring out players may be torn on whether to make some quick coins or plug away at gaining experience points. Our advice is that it is easier to make money once you have achieved at least a level 7 ranking which will open up the “Roadside Shop”.

  • Stock the Shop!

The “Roadside Shop” is the easiest way to earn the bling bling! Here players can sell excess stocks and stores in exchange for gold.  Farmers can decide what they want to sell, the quantity and for how much.  Whilst of course it is advantageous to sell your wares for the highest possible price available, as a general rule of thumb, pricing your wares at approximately 75% ~ 90% of the max price will ensure that items will sell out quickly and essentially earn more money quicker.

  • Keep Some Crops!

Growing a single plot of crops will yield the same cop two-fold. Therefore, in order to multiply crops you will always need to keep at least 1 (preferably 2) of each crop in order to further grow more.  That said however, if you do run out of a certain crop then you can always buy more from a ‘friends’ farm.

  • Aim for 14!

Upon reaching level 14, “Tom” the delivery boy is unlocked. Tom is the go-to-guy (much like Red from the Shawshank Redemption) that can get you things at an affordable price.  Yet use him wisely as he can only be used every two hours.

  • Time your Harvests!

Wheat, corn and carrots etc. can also be grown in a relatively short amount of time, yet other crops such as pumpkins, indigo and so forth can take hours! Therefore, it is wise to plant this crops before you go to sleep or before you start work / school.  Obviously the same rule applies to livestock and production goods as well!

  • Veto the Visitor!

Whilst it is tempting to make a quick sale by selling goods to visitors, you will be able to earn a much higher rate if you sell the same goods at the “Roadside Shop”! The same applies to the “Bulletin Board”, in which if you can’t or don’t want to fill a specific order then you can delete orders and wait for a new, more attractive order to come through.

Additionally, if in need of construction materials such as duct tape, saws and axes etc. a very easy and quick way is to plant and harvest massive amounts of wheat which can be grown very quickly with the excess being sold in the “Roadside Shop”. By collecting said crops and livestock by-products, certain materials will randomly be ‘found’ which will enable farmers to upgrade silos and barns etc.

Another cunning little trick is to completely shut down the application and then start it up again to get the latest newspaper in your letterbox and thus be entitled to new specials and the most recent rates and prices.

Personal Impressions of Hay Day

Visually rich and emotional stimulating, this is a heartwarming and peaceful game which is a great retreat when wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Smooth, simple and easy to navigate controls and gameplay make this a game that is suitable for all ages and walks of life.

Like so many free games, this is also a Freemium app in which it is completely free to play from beginning to end, yet players have the option of buying “diamonds” – with real life money – to advance and speed up progress within the game. Yet as I have stated before, why bother?  The entire premise of this game is to simulate a laid back country lifestyle, so don’t rush it!

On the negative side of the spectrum, the only thing I can find fault with is the inability to retrieve or delete items that don’t sell in the roadside shop without having to spend precious diamonds. Sure it’s a great marketing tool for the company to entice more in-game purchases from users, yet it could be annoying to some.  That said it is very very mild and not as insitant nor pushy as many other games!  Therefore, all in all, if looking for a gentle, relaxing time filler then this is the game for you!
