Flip Master

An Introduction to Flip Master

From champion game makers Miniclip, the developers of such hugely popular titles like Basketball Stars, Archery King and Bowmasters etc. comes another hit game Flip Master which builds and expands on the rag-doll classic Flip Diving. Yet in Flip Masters instead of single dives off a cliff, players must link as many consecutive jumps off a trampoline together as possible, all the while aiming to collect coins and performing various tricks to score points.

Flip Master : Gameplay

Expanding on the simple press and hold controls of the predecessor Flip Diving, players have the option to perform a variety of tricks by pressing and holding on the allocated icon. Furthermore, players can also direct jumps sideways by sliding while holding so as to aim for collecting coins and to avoid frame works and wiping out.  Linking jumps and tricks together will also trigger the streak meter which adds extra bonuses.

Tips ‘n’ Tricks for Flip Master

With no energy meter or penalties that punish players or limit gameplay, the absolute best way to make the most out of Flip Master and to perfect jumps is to play as often and as much as possible! Doing so early on enables players to find their groove and to perfect timing which can then earn rewards faster which in turn can fund training and “spins” that unlock new characters, locations and tricks.  Whilst it can become a little tedious, a few deep sessions can quickly see results.

Upon finding a groove, players can then decide to either go hard and go home, i.e. max out as many flips and tricks into each single jump, or play the long game by taking it safe and only performing very few flips to ensure a safe landing each and every time. The more difficult the trick and the more flips linked together the more points players receive yet the safer the jump, the more likely players can jump higher and gather more coins.

With five different categories which can be improved, it can be difficult to know where to invest precious coins since they are used for not only upgrading skills, yet also everything else! Therefore, when starting out it is best to rotate between training and spins to unlock new stuff.  When training, first upgrade each category at least once as ranking up doubles in costs each time, which means that ranking all categories from tier one to two will cost 250 coins, yet going from tier three to four will cost more for a single category than for upgrading all at a lower rate.

That said however, after a short amount of gameplay, it is easy to notice where weaknesses and strengths lie, so obviously if struggling with landings, then focus on balance. If wanting more coins, focus on strength to jump higher to reach more coins and have more time to perform tricks.  If a ton of tricks have already been obtained, then focus on upgrading confidence etc.

It should also be noted that different characters are simply aesthetics and that there are no major differences in stats. Training and upgrading abilities also only apply to the particular character that is trained and does not affect all stats across the board.  Therefore, when upgrading it is best to only ever focus on one particular character (unless willing to pay for coins) then limit all research to a single character and if wanting occasionally play with different avatars.

As with almost every other freemium games, players should be sure to log in daily to collect free rewards. Flip master however, goes one step further to include hourly bonuses and boosts.  Balloons simply add bonus coins yet medicine balls and foam cubes etc. add short timed buffs which means that players will need to be ready to play successively to make the most out of the boosts before they run out. Beside these timed bonuses, it is also important to always play on the best trampoline available as the better the trampoline the better the rewards.

With a wide range of different tricks available, it is important to find out which ones suit best. Obviously the more difficult the trick, the more points are earnt, yet if players fail repeatedly on the landing of a difficult trick, then it is evidently better to focus on easier tricks which can be performed multiple times.  For example the grab tuck is makes it extremely ease to land on your head (a fail) yet the pike and Lazy and Superhero etc. whilst not being ranked as “hard” allow for a much more controlled landing.

Personal Impressions // Review of Flip Master

The animations of the physics based flips and flops are well designed and very easy to control. The rag-doll effects are at times so comical that it can be tempting to wipe out on purpose.  The sound effects and voice-overs are crisp and relatively entertaining (for a while at least, then like most games, the sound is muted).

Whilst the overabundance of ads and pop-up videos is usually one of the most infuriatingly aspects of freemium games, in Flip Master due to the simplicity of gameplay and that the quickest way to earn coins is actually to watch the video ads, Flip Master is actually a great game to play in the background whilst watching TV, commuting or even (if possible) while at work or in class. However, if wanting a more intellectually challenging or adrenaline inducing action, then perhaps Flip Master is not the game for you.
Three stars out of five.
