An Introduction to DATA WING
Former Lead Designer and co-founder of famed Halfbrick Studios yet now solo indie game developer, Australian Dan Vogt has released a wonderfully surprising new gem of a game! Set in a futuristic digital world players race through a 2D top down course which as fast paced and action packed as it is, surprisingly takes a back seat to the epic tale that is spun between action sequences. These witty and well timed snippets of information perfectly hook players line and sinker as they race through levels eagerly awaiting the next installment of the story arc.
DATA WING : Gameplay
Within the very Meta set premise of playing a game on a smartphone where the goal is to deliver packages from the central mainframe within a smartphone, players navigate a digital ship / data wing through the “Tron” like synapses and routes of imagined circuitry. Therefore players must make use of very simple left / right one tough controls to steer, drift and dodge their way through the complex maze like tracks. Extremely easy to grasp yet difficult to master is what makes the action part of DATA WING so enjoyable.
Features of DATA WING
- Intuitive two-touch controls with an arcade feel

Tips ‘n’ Tricks for DATA WING
Due to the smoothness of the controls and realistic physics based motions and pendulums of movements, the very first thing that players need to master is the basic controls. From there try flirting with the guard rails, as a direct collision will end in a loss of speed and time yet by subtly grazing the rails with the tail end the ship’s afterburners boost off rails to provide a massive increase in acceleration. Therefore to perfectly speed through levels, players need to eloquently drift through turns and curves and boost their way through straights to complete levels and missions to further the intriguing story arc.
Perfecting the wall boost and anticipating drift lines is ultimately the only real trick to mastering DATA WING and despite as simple as it seems is surprising difficult yet very rewarding to complete a flawless perfect run. Therefore, it can often be faster to take a longer path boosting off walls rather than striving for the shortest possible route.
Personal Impressions // Review of DATA WING
WoW!! Without a doubt, the best way to sum up DATA WING is with but a single word, wow! As devoid of generosity as this capitalistic era that we in is, it is heartwarming to see such openness and altruistic philanthropy in this day and age. Yet that is exactly the true beauty of DATA WING! Whilst the platform and genre may be flooded with similar games, creator Dan Vogt has crafted an amazing experience which goes beyond the norm to truly captivate users beyond the standard gaming experience to genuinely stimulate a vast array of emotions and passions.
The ultra-smooth drift vectors and flight controls further highlight how this was a game made to be enjoyed and not simply a cash grab generic bait and switch. The lack of absolutely any IAP’s or pop-up advertisements means this is not a pay-to-win nor a freemium in disguise, it is unequivocally a free to play gift from the creator and as such is definitely worth the download!
As such for this generosity and the fact that despite how simple the game is, the graphics, sound, controls and most importantly storyline are subtle to a tee and well beyond any criticism! DATA WING scores a very, very rare perfect five stars out of five! Thank you to Dan Vogt and be sure to support him by downloading this absolutely free game today!
