Tips ‘n’ Tricks for Darts of Fury
Resist the Rewind.
If after a long fought battle where both players are neck and neck vying for that game winner single shot, it can be extremely frustrating to bust and relinquish control over to the opponent. This is especially infuriating if players quickly get down to the last shot yet repeatedly fail as opponents slowly close the gap. Consequently it is extremely understandable to fall victim to the seductive rewind feature where players can shoot again for the cost of a few gems. However, as gems being the premium currency are extremely difficult to farm for free, using the rewind feature is a huge waste as spending the gems does not actually guarantee a win.
As tempting as it is to go hard or go home and always aim for the big ticket treble twenty, if unable hit the desired target then players will most likely hit a 5, I or worst a zero. Thus when starting out it is better to aim for the bullseye as even if the shot veers widely players will in evidently score some points and avoid a zero score. Then as players creep ever closer to the end goal, it is important to do the maths so as to not inadvertently accidently going bust. Therefore, if needing a 24 to win, players can either aim for a twenty and four, or a treble eight or double 12. Obviously hitting the goal in as few darts as possible allows for greater success as players will have backup shots available.
Above all, having the best dart possible for each level is paramount in winning battles. Following, players can upgrade different parts of the dart to increase attributes. Upgrades however grow extremely expensive so it is important to spend coins wisely, so if able to hold off try postponing upgrades in order to lead-frog darts and save coins and time spent grinding. Therefore it is best to upgrade speed (faster darts land straighter which prevents blocking) and stability (stable darts fly smoothly through the air to hit which greater accuracy). The third option of slimness reduces the thickness of the dart shaft which allows for more darts to fit in tight spots. Yet as players will rarely need to (or more importantly – be able to) hit triple trebles, it is better to save coins than invest in upgrading slimness. Other elements to the dart also need attention as changing Shapes can increase speed yet Flights are purely decorative, extremely expensive and should be avoided at all costs!
Tighten Shots With Training!
Unable to hit that perfect 180 shot? Or worse still continue to close out first time every time with that game winning precision shot and end up losing? Then rather than simply throwing bricks and hoping for the best, it is far better to instead spend some time and coins in the practice arena. Doing so will cost valuable coins, yet by watching short video ads players can essentially train for free. Whilst players may prefer to save those coins in order to unlock new darts and shapes, in the long term it is without a doubt much more profitable to begin by spending coins at the start perfecting skills and once familiar with controls and accurate, then begin the arduous journey to grind out coins.
Personal Impressions // Review of Darts of Fury
On first appearances Darts of Fury is extremely fun and well designed. However, despite my vast improvement in accuracy, thanks to the practice arena, the controls still just seem too finicky and far too random without a precise measure of exactness to them. Which in result can lead to some extremely frustrating close calls and wildly unfair points of impact.
Furthermore, the more you play, the more the pay-to-win nature starts to reveal itself. For example, the energy meter is limited to three with a long wait time between rejuvenations to which players are prompted to spend 50 gems to refill the measly three slots.
More importantly though, the matchmaking algorithms seem to be a little skewed where players will either win easily or be confronted with an opponent who is much higher in rank and magically able to hit their desired sweet spot every shot. So if the frustration of losing becomes a little too intense the game offers the chance to purchase new darts which have better attributes which will enable greater success. Yet with these darts costing thousands of premium currency if not vigilant, players can end up spending massive amounts of IRL money on what is supposed to be a free-to-play game. Whilst Darts of Fury has a lot of potential within it yet as it stands in its current version it lacks the freedom it should have and as such DoF scores one and a half stars out of five.
